Fraudulent Medicare Verification Call
SCCU has received reports from members who have received phone calls from people pretending to be Medicare representatives. These fraudulent calls are made in an attempt to obtain personal information under the false pretense of updating or renewing Medicare cards. The telephone scam artist says that there is new Medicare card being mailed soon that you must carry and then asks to verify your contact information. The caller provides your name, address, phone number, bank name, and bank account routing number. Then, the caller ask you to provide your personal bank account number. If you receive one of these calls, hang up the phone immediately, as Medicare does not call beneficiaries to obtain this type of information. If you have any questions about the status of your Medicare or Social Security benefits, you can contact the agencies directly.
SCCU urges you to protect your account number or other personal information. Do not respond to this, or any other unsolicited request for your personal information
