SECURITY ADVISORY: Virus/Malware Targets Online Banking Users
We have been notified that some SCCU members have experienced virus/malware on their personal computers that targets Online Banking users. Once the infection is present on a personal computer, the virus/malware attempts to trick users by redirecting them to a non-SCCU web page and/or fraudulent login screens for the purpose of acquiring sensitive data such as usernames, passwords, card numbers and PINs, identity verification questions, and other information.
This virus/malware is not targeted specifically at any single financial institution, but some members' personal computers have been infected. SCCU Online Banking systems have not been breached. Your information is still safe. This information is an effort to make you aware of the potential hazard this virus/malware entails and the steps you can take if you find that your computer is infected.
If when logging in to Online Banking you find yourself redirected to a page that states your computer is “not recognized” or you find yourself on a page that is not an official SCCU web page, please do the following:
- Contact Member Services immediately to have your Online Banking access suspended until the issue on your PC has been resolved.
- Run updated anti virus and malware scanner software to clean your PC.
- Visit any branch to change your user ID and password. You will want to complete this last. If your computer is not fully cleaned the first time, any attempt to login to Online Banking while the virus remains on your computer will cause you to have to change your information again.
If you ever have a question concerning your account, contact SCCU directly at 800-447-7228.
Please remember that Space Coast Credit Union, the NCUA, CUNA, CUNA Mutual, or any other organization pertaining to credit unions, DOES NOT e-mail, text message, or telephone our members asking for personal information such as complete social security numbers, account numbers, dates of birth, etc.
